Summer Update 2019

I hope you are all enjoying the summer and starting to see the fruits of your labour in your gardens and allotments.
I wanted to write to update you on a few matters that the Committee have been working on.

Judging
The independent judging for 2019 has taken place and I am delighted to confirm the winners below;

10 Pole

5 Pole Huge congratulations to those noted above and we will of course be making these presentations along with others at the BBQ on 31st August.

BBQ
The popular BBQ will this year be held on Saturday 31st August at the Cemetery Fields sales hut from 1.30pm, with food being served at 2.00pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for new and old members to gather together and celebrate the summer’s achievements. During the afternoon we will also be making our judging presentations. We will provide food, paper plates and plastic cutlery, however please bring any liquid refreshments that you require together with cups, glasses and a chair for your comfort. One of the highlights of the BBQ is the wonderful cakes and desserts that are made by our members. To enable us to cater for the numbers expected, please indicate on the return slip on the reverse of the update or by emailing the Secretary Dawn Conaty on secretary@desboroughallotments.co.uk noting how many people will be attending along with any dietary requirements your party may have. As always, we would be grateful if you are able to make or bring your favourite dessert for all to share. The slip can be given to any committee member or you can drop it into the sales hut any Friday between 6.30 pm and 7.30 pm, no later than Friday 23rd August.

Association Event – 18th September
To broaden the reach of the Association in Desborough, we will be running an event at the Heritage Centre in Desborough. As we all know, Organic Gardening has become more main stream in recent years as gardeners look for more environmentally friendly ways of carrying out their craft. We have a specialist speaker who has agreed to come and talk at an event on this subject, so why not come and hear why organic gardening makes such sense, hopefully you will also pick up one or two useful tips along the way. The event will commence at 7pm on the 18th September and we will charge a nominal fee of £2.00 (this includes refreshment) to cover costs; any profit will be donated to the Heritage Centre.

Shop –Opening – Every Friday 6.30pm – 7.0pm The shop/hut will continue to be open until the end of August for any purchases you wish to make. We would like to remind you, should you wish to purchase items out of normal hut hours, that you have your Association Membership card with you. This is a significant member benefit that we offer and we are not legally able to sell to non-members.

Marlow House A quick reminder that should you have too much produce Marlow House are very happy to receive any excess. Simply pop along and drop off any items that you may have. We have been supporting Marlow House with this initiative for a couple of years and they are extremely grateful.

Members Outing We are delighted to confirm that the Association outing for 2019 to the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show on Sunday 15 September is now full. Those attending will be contacted by Bob Freeman closer to the date. Should you wish to be added to the waiting list then please contact Bob on 01536 760770.

Finally, I would like to thank you all for the support that you have given to the Committee and Association and I look forward to seeing many of you at the BBQ on the 31st August where we can celebrate our season together.
