Summer Update 2018

I would like to take the opportunity to update you on a few matters that have been discussed by the Committee recently.

GDPR Update
One item that is very important is that Data Protection Laws are changing and we need to notify you about the data that we hold, what we use it for and how long we hold it. As an allotment membership association we simply hold the name, address and email address (if provided) on a password protected database on each member for the duration of your membership. When you no longer have an allotment or leave the association we delete your details. We only hold your data to process memberships including inviting you to meetings and socials as well as sending the occasional newsletter and formal society papers. We would like to do as much of this over email in future if members are willing to share their email address with us. We promise that we will never share your details with other organisations unless required to do so by law and we won’t be using details for any marketing purposes. Please forward your email address if you have not done so to secretary@desboroughallotments.co.uk

BBQ
This year the Association Committee will be holding the annual BBQ on Saturday 1st September where will gather together to celebrate the summers achievements along with the presentation of the various Association cups and shields. The BBQ will be held at the Cemetery Fields sales hut and after listening to feedback concerning timings, this year we will gather together from 1.30pm, with food being served at 2pm. We will provide food, however, please bring any liquid refreshments that you require together with cups and glasses. We will also provide paper plates and plastic cutlery but you will need to bring along a chair for comfort. One of the highlights of the BBQ is the wonderful cakes and desserts that are made for all to share and we would be grateful you are able to provide once again. We will be in touch later in the summer concerning the event, however please add the date to your calendar and email Dawn Conaty on secretary@desboroughallotments.co.uk to note you will be attending, when we get in touch later in the summer we will enclose an attendance slip for convenience for those without email.

Plot Judging
Each year ahead of the BBQ prize giving event the plots are independently judged.
The Judging has now been completed with the following results:

Shop/Out-of Hours Hut Opening
We would like to politely ask that should you wish to purchase items out of normal hut hours that you have your Association Membership card with you. This is a significant member benefit that we offer and we are not legally able to sell to non-members. Please note the hut is open from 6.30pm-7.30pm every Friday evening until the end of August.

Marlow House
The initiative was a great success last year and so once again should you have excess produce please feel free to drop off your vegetables at Marlow House who once again would be delighted to use rather than items going to waster or going back into the composter. Marlow House are a wonderful charitable organisation and any help and support we can offer is greatly appreciated by them.

Tree Cutting
We have noticed that that some trees in the far left of the field to need to be cut back, we are obtaining quotes to have this completed as soon as possible.

Contact Details Update
Please note some committee contact details below, and do feel free to drop an email to any of the officers below should you have any questions.

Allotment Regulations
I have enclosed an updated version of the rules of the Association, slight amendments to note are concerning bonfires, these must not be left unattended at any time and please also be considerate to others working on their plot when you choose to light your fire. We also ask that under no circumstances should plastics be burned.
Lastly I would like to thank you all for the support that you have given to the Committee and Association and I look forward to seeing many of you over the summer.
